Explore new and innovative approaches to collage and painting using Golden acrylic mediums and pigments with Mixed Media artist Kevin Greeland.
Mixed Media Painting Series 1 of 3 (3 weeks) March 23, 30 and April 6 10:30 am – 1:30 pm
Learn the fundamentals of combining collage, printmaking and painting on canvas, paper and/or wood. Students will gain an understanding of each of the unique characteristics of acrylic pigments. Learn valuable information about acrylics, guiding you through the basics while opening up new possibilities. We’ll see how mineral and modern pigments relates to clean color mixing, glazing and the creation of fabulous new colors. Learn about unique properties of Fluids, Heavy Body, and the slower drying OPEN acrylics and High Flow Acrylics. Discover the Interference and Iridescent paints and how to create unusual effects. Explore color, texture, collage, surface design and composition. This series of classes is a wonderful way to get your creative mind to think in new ways and unlock your creativity. Personal direction is emphasized. All skill levels welcome.
Mixed Media Painting Series 2 of 3 (3 weeks) May 4,11, 18 10:30 am – 1:30 pm
In this series of classes we will continue learning how to combine collage, printmaking and painting on canvas, paper and/or wood. Students will gain an understanding of the many gels, mediums and pastes and how they can change the texture, saturation and intensity in your work. Students will learn about amazing new grounds to prepare contemporary surfaces for painting, drawing, pastel and mixed media. We’ll cover crackle paste and glass bead gel to acrylic “faux” encaustic and more. Explore color and texture, surface design and composition. This series of classes is a wonderful way to energize your creativity and to think in new ways. Personal direction is emphasized. All skill levels welcome.
Mixed Media painting Series 3 of 3 (3 weeks) May 25 and June 1, 8 10:30 am – 1:30 pm
Continuing our pursuits of contemporary painting we’ll explore image transfers using wet mediums and creating new surface for painting and collage. Learn the art, science and mechanics of making dynamic “Gel Skins” for use in collage and to enhance mixed media painting skills. We will also explore a variety of methods in which to transfer an image directly into a variety of substrates. This class is heavy on process and materials to help the students become familiar and comfortable with the actual creation of Gel Skins and Image Transfer techniques. Designed to expand your skills and unlock your creativity. All skill levels welcome but Mixed Media Painting Series #2 is required first.
