The Fall of Blue Narcissus

The Fall of Blue Narcissus

TFBN

This commissioned painting is on a 14 x 14 Birchwood panel. The under-painting was completed in mostly carbon black and cool grays, followed by successive layers done in combinations of the same colors mixed with Micaceous Iron Oxide and Iridescent Stainless Steel (Coarse) working in most of the detail. The final detail layers were completed in thin coats of Interference Blue (Fine) mixed with both the Micaceous Iron Oxide and the Iridescent Stainless Steel (Coarse). All the products are available from Golden Artists Colors, Inc.

The commission came about from someone seeing a post I did on my blog on March 20th advertising my upcoming Mixed Media Painting class. In the blog post is a photograph of a sample I made showing how to create metal effects, dimension using pastes and gels and glass bead gel. The photograph is of an orchid I did that had the look of a Bronze relief with a patina….this helps show how important it is the communicate about your artwork and the process of creating.
